How to check a university and programme in Zambia

Use the Higher Education Authority’s registry and verify the specific campus and programme before enrolling.

A university advert may say that an institution is registered or a programme is accredited. Those are details worth checking before you commit to a course. Zambia’s Higher Education Authority provides online information about registered institutions and accredited programmes.

Match the campus and programme

Search the official registry for the institution’s exact name and campus. Then ask whether the specific programme, qualification level and delivery method are accredited for the period in which you intend to study. An institution appearing in a register does not automatically confirm every course or campus.

Confirm an unclear result

If a search produces no match, ask the authority directly before assuming an institution is unregistered. Names, campuses or records may be displayed differently, and an application could be under review. Request current written confirmation of the course’s status from both the institution and the authority.

Compare the full commitment

Ask the institution for entry requirements, tuition, examination and other fees, timetable, placement arrangements and the awarding body. If practical placement is mentioned, ask whether it is guaranteed. For a regulated profession, check the relevant professional council’s requirements separately.

Keep receipts and correspondence. Do not pay a third party who promises admission or accreditation without verifying the provider and payment route.
