Finding teaching jobs in Zambia
Check the current recruiting body, teacher registration and the school's real duty station.

Teaching work in Zambia appears in public schools, private schools, colleges and education projects. These routes do not share one application process. The Teaching Council of Zambia publishes registration information, while the Ministry of Education and public-service channels issue their own notices. A school advertisement must still be current and attributable to the actual employer. This guide helps applicants verify eligibility, describe classroom practice and assess a posting before accepting.
Separate public and private recruitment
Read the latest Ministry of Education and public-service notice for a public intake; do not reuse a previous year's form or dates. A private school or college recruits under its own legal entity, so verify the campus and current vacancy directly. Teaching Council of Zambia publishes registration resources and the Teaching Profession Act provides the legal context. These are not job boards for every school. Save the actual job reference, subject, grade, location and deadline. A forwarded poster promising a government deployment is not proof that the ministry opened a new round.
Split the search into government schools, private schools, colleges and training organisations. Each may use a different employer and notice. Check the current individual role for subject, level, district, qualification and registration requirements before applying. A school building project or examination announcement is not a teaching vacancy. A recent graduate can describe supervised teaching practice, including lesson objective, class level, how understanding was checked and what feedback changed. Do not claim registration or subject authority before it is granted. Save the notice and the precise school or district named; a provincial label may not identify the actual posting.
State qualifications and classroom evidence
Give the exact teaching award, subject, registration status and supervised teaching period. If certification is pending, say so rather than claiming completed registration. Explain a lesson objective, how you checked understanding and what you changed after feedback. Protect children's identity in any work sample. ZAQA can help verify formal awards, but professional registration belongs to the competent council. Do not claim to teach a subject or grade range outside your preparation merely because a school has an urgent gap. A clear example of supporting diverse learners is stronger than a generic claim of passion.
Prepare a brief lesson example that fits the advertised age group and subject. Include one way to adapt an explanation for a learner who needs more support, without sharing any pupil's private details. Ask whether the role includes boarding duty, weekend activities, transport between schools or a temporary timetable. A private school offer should name the legal employer, pay dates and workload in writing. A public application may require a particular form and channel, so do not reuse a private-school email without checking. A person selling a guaranteed posting cannot replace the official selection process; verify through the employing institution.
Verify a posting or invitation
For a public role, follow the official current application route and documentation list. A private school may request a demonstration lesson, interview and references. Check the sender through the school's independently found contact. No applicant should pay an intermediary for a guaranteed placement. Workzambia.net links to original notices and charges no fee. Keep the advert and confirmation. If a recruitment message changes the location or asks for identity documents unusually early, verify before travelling or sharing files. A school's familiar name can be copied onto a false letterhead.
Follow the submission route in the live notice, including its reference, document format and closing time. Public service jobs may use the government portal, while a company may use its own career system. Workzambia.net links to the original application and charges applicants nothing. A forwarded poster or message can be a lead, but verify it with the employer before sending sensitive documents. Do not pay a person who promises to move you onto a shortlist. Keep the advert and confirmation so that a later invitation can be checked.
Read workload and living arrangements
Ask for subjects, class size, contact hours, marking, activities, duty station, housing or transport, pay and contract period in writing. A rural posting and a city day school can have very different practical costs. A private school may expect weekend events; a college may include research or administrative work. Zambia's Employment Code Act frames relevant employment terms, and the particular offer must explain the job. Clarify induction, safeguarding processes and who supports a new teacher. Do not accept a verbal promise of housing without knowing its conditions.
Before you accept, request the legal employer, site, basic pay, allowances, hours, contract term, probation, supervisor and travel or equipment obligations in writing. Zambia's Employment Code Act provides the employment framework, but the particular contract still needs to be read. A contractor at a mine, hospital or utility may have different terms from direct staff. A higher headline wage can be less useful if a long commute, unpaid equipment or unpredictable shifts consume it. Clarify responsibilities before leaving another role.
Build a credible teaching record
Keep anonymised lesson plans, assessments, feedback and evidence of professional development that you are allowed to share. Ask a supervisor to observe a lesson and give specific guidance. A new teacher can improve classroom management and subject depth; an experienced one may target mentoring or coordination. Check the actual requirements for the next post and registration status before buying a course. If a placement ends, describe its dates and level honestly. A strong future application shows how your teaching changed learning, not just how long you held a title.
Keep a lawful record of work, feedback, training and supervisors who can confirm what you did. Choose a next role from real vacancies and identify one skill or credential that it actually requires. If applications do not bring interviews, compare your evidence with the essential criteria before rewriting everything. If interviews fail, practise explaining decisions, limits and mistakes. Training or a talent profile is only a step; neither guarantees a job. A reliable record of work is what makes the next application stronger.
