How to present and verify qualifications in Zambia
Describe the exact award, institution and date, and use ZAQA when formal evaluation is needed.

A CV should make it easy to see what you have studied and what you can do. It should not force an employer to guess whether an award is complete or whether a short course equals a formal qualification. Zambia Qualifications Authority, ZAQA, provides official verification and evaluation services. Use its information when an employer asks for a formal check, especially for a foreign qualification. Keep your own records accurate from the first application.
List each credential without inflating it
Copy the full award name, awarding institution and completion date from the document itself. If final certification is pending, write the accurate status and keep an official transcript or completion letter. A course you attended is not automatically a degree you earned. Separate professional registration, trade certification and short online learning. A recruiter may accept several types of evidence for a broad skill requirement, but an exact credential in a regulated role needs the exact proof. Do not invent a qualification level because the title sounds similar.
Check that your name and dates agree across the CV, portal form and documents. If your name changed, ask the employer what supporting evidence it needs. Do not edit a scan to conceal a difference. For a foreign award, read the employer’s instructions and ZAQA’s official evaluation service before paying anyone for an opinion. A private certificate seller cannot create an official equivalence. Keep a secure list of document numbers and issuing contacts so you can respond promptly to a genuine verification request.
Connect learning to the actual job
Look at the advert and identify the tasks your education prepares you for. A laboratory applicant might explain a supervised method and quality check; an engineering graduate might show a project and the standard used; an administrator might explain how they organised a record system. State your role in each example. Do not attach a long transcript without telling the recruiter why it matters. A good qualification section is precise, then the work-history or project section shows application.
Technical and vocational training may have a different awarding path from university study. TEVETA publishes information on training and registered institutions. Check the provider and specific programme where recognition matters. A certificate from a registered institution does not automatically grant a professional licence for every task. If a job requires current registration, consult the named professional body separately. If you have partial training, look for assistant or trainee roles and explain what you have completed under supervision.
Prepare verification files safely
Make readable copies of certificates, transcripts, completion letters and licences, each with a clear filename. Keep originals secure. Submit only what the live advert requests at that stage. A government portal or employer may have file-size and format rules; test the file before the deadline. Do not send your full identity package to a random private email copied from a job group. Open the original vacancy and verify the recipient on the employer’s site. Workzambia.net links to original application channels and does not run a certificate-verification service.
If an award has not yet been issued, ask the institution for a formal letter rather than creating your own. If a record contains an error, use the issuing institution’s correction process. An employer can usually understand an honest delay when you provide an official trail. It is much harder to trust an altered document. Keep proof of a ZAQA request or evaluation if one is underway, including the status and what the employer was told.
Answer questions consistently
Before interviews, rehearse a short explanation of what the award covered, what you practised and what you still need to learn. An employer may ask whether a course involved field attachment or only classroom work. Answer directly. If you worked on a group project, identify your part and the supervisor who can verify it. Never claim a licence for work you are not authorised to perform. In a safety-critical occupation, a false claim can harm people as well as your job prospects.
Update your CV after receiving a new official credential, not merely after registering for a course. Keep one master education record and adapt the order to each vacancy. If an employer challenges the status of a provider, use ZAQA or TEVETA information and the institution’s own record to investigate. Do not argue from an advertisement for the course. A precise, modest description of a real qualification is more useful than an ambitious but unverifiable title.
Maintain one accurate credential record
Keep a private master record with each award’s exact name, institution, dates, official verification route and relevant document. Use it to complete forms consistently. Record a placement separately from academic study and note the supervisor who can verify practical work. If an employer asks for an evaluation, save the ZAQA request and response. Do not send a whole archive of certificates to a stranger who has not identified a real role and organisation.
Review the record after a correction, new qualification or name change. Ask the issuing body to fix an error formally rather than editing the scan. When a vacancy uses an unfamiliar abbreviation, ask the employer which award it accepts before assuming equivalence. A clear explanation of a real credential is stronger than a broad label you cannot defend. Keep learning evidence alongside the formal record so the employer can see both what you studied and what you practised.

Frequently asked questions
What if I have a foreign certificate?
Read the employer’s requirement and use ZAQA’s official evaluation route when a formal comparison is needed.
Can I list an unfinished degree?
Yes, if you state clearly that it is in progress and do not claim the final award.
Does a training-provider listing prove I hold a licence?
No. Verify your specific award and any occupational registration required for the job separately.
