Tips for this CV

  • Put your Grade 12 School Certificate near the top if the job asks for it. Of the 105 adverts for jobs in Zambia in our catalogue on 1 November 2026, 33 name Grade 12.
  • Write your council number where the job needs one: EIZ for engineers, ZICA for accountants, HPCZ or the nursing council for health staff, TCZ for teachers. EIZ appears in 17 of those 105 adverts and ZICA in 4.
  • If you have a ZAQA verification, say so. ZAQA appears in 12 of those 105 adverts. Grade 12 costs K50 to verify and a local degree K500, on ZAQA's fee list.
  • State your licence class if you can drive. 27 of those 105 adverts mention a driving licence.
  • Mine and site jobs often sit in Kalumbila, Solwezi or Kansanshi. If you can relocate to North-Western Province, say so on the first line.
  • Leave your photo, NRC number, marital status and religion off the CV unless the advert asks. This builder has no photo field, and a plain column is easy to read.

We counted the 105 adverts for jobs in Zambia in our catalogue on 1 November 2026. 33 name Grade 12, 27 mention a driving licence, 17 name EIZ, 12 name ZAQA and 4 name ZICA, by initials or in full. So if you have one of these, make sure a recruiter can see it in seconds.

What's the best CV format for a job in Zambia?

One plain column, two pages at most, with your most recent work first. Start with your name, phone, email and town. Then write two or three lines on what you do. Then work history, education, council registrations and referees.

What should I write if I have no experience?

Put education first, with your Grade 12 School Certificate and any college or university award. Then add attachments, volunteering, school projects or family business work, each with what you did and a result. A line like kept the stock book for a family shop and found K300 of errors in a month is worth more than a list of qualities.

Should I add a photo or my NRC number?

No, unless the advert asks. A photo adds nothing you can be checked on, and your NRC number is sensitive. It's asked for later, through the formal route. Our builder doesn't have a photo field at all.

How do I save it as a PDF on my phone?

Press the print button, then choose Save as PDF as the printer. Open the file to check it before you send it. Your draft stays in this browser until you delete it, so you can change it for the next advert.

Questions people ask

Do I need ZAQA verification before I apply?

Only if the advert asks. 12 of the 105 adverts we counted name ZAQA. Grade 12 verification costs K50 and a local degree K500, on the fee list ZAQA links from its home page, and both take 14 days, so don't leave it until closing week.

How many referees should I give?

Two or three, unless the advert says otherwise. Ask them first, and give numbers they actually answer.

Should I write a different CV for each job?

Keep one full version and change the top lines and the order of your duties for each advert. Our word check shows which words from the advert aren't on your CV yet.
